Saving and making ancient wisdom available online for free
“The Asian Classics Input Project (ACIP) aims to find philosophical, religious and cultural manuscripts in Sanskrit, Tibetan, and other languages, transcribe them, scan them, catalog them, and put them online free of charge. Some of this wisdom is over 2.500 years old and contains the cultural heritage of the great cultures of the East.”
Some books are carved on wooden blocks, written on palm leaves or birch-bark paper, or simply lie unsorted and unused in monasteries, libraries, or private collections, due to lack of funds. Their team is aiming to be highly sustainable, constantly training their local employees in restauration skills, but the documents could be easily damaged forever due to improper storage, mold, rot, or insect if they are not saved by this organization.
They have already setup a database that continues to grow and after preservation, they will translate the texts into: English, German, Spanish, Russian and Chinese.
